Sub: Inputs on Non- Tariff Barriers to trade and India-Australia Joint Ministerial
Commission meeting -reg.

Council has received communication from Ministry seeking comments/inputs on the following.
A) The WTO meetings regarding Sanitary and Phytosanitary measures (SPS) and Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) are scheduled to be held during October and November 2016 which gives an opportunity to raise long pending issues which are affecting trade bilaterally. Therefore, it is requested to send issues identified in respect of SPS and TBT with details of its impact which impends handloom export from India before 03.10.2016 so that the same could be addressed to Ministry to take suitable measures.

B) The 15th meeting of India-Australia Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) is to be held in Australia shortly. The commission will be co- chaired by the Indian Minister of Commerce and Australian Minister of Trade. The mandate of JMC among other issues includes

(i) Consideration of measures to strengthen relations between two countries in all areas, particularly in the field of commercial, economic, scientific and technological cooperation
(ii) Raise issues of major importance to the relationship and discuss approaches to significant issues of common concern
(iii) Indicate priority areas for further cooperation
(iv) Examine the working of the various bilateral agreements in forces between the two countries and of arrangement embodies in memoranda of understanding etc.

The inputs on the above issues for JMC meeting may be sent to the Council before 03.10.2016 for onward submission to the ministry.
